The coach must:
- Arrive early before the lesson to thoroughly check the best location for a safe, suitable surf venue
- Beware of the constantly changing sea conditions, and if the conditions are starting to cause concerns, act immediately to stop the surf lesson before it becomes dangerous.
- If the venue is unsuitable, participants can participate in other fun learning games in suitable areas, i.e., a swimming pool or beach.
- Inspect for deep holes and channels in the shallow waters and surf zone that may affect a stable standing position on the sandbank
- Be aware of rips and sweeps that move beginner surfers out of the selected suitable safe area.
- Check for an area with minimal debris and sharp shells on the beach.
- Provide a suitable safe area that has minimal opportunity for other ocean-based activities to move close to the beginner surfers
